Ear training, also called Aural training, is the processes of learning to identify and decipher music so that you can play it by ear. It consists of exercises that musicians perform in order to improve their mastery of various music elements such as rhythms, intervals and chords.
A major component of ear training is singing; if you're able to sing it means that you can hear the music in your head and match the pitch. What you're aiming for with ear training is the development of "relative pitch" (which is the ability to identify the intervals between certain tones) and not necessarily "absolute pitch" (commonly called "perfect pitch"; i.e. the ability to specifically identify a musical note without the benefit of a known reference note).
